I went and checked out the two abandoned ATSF heavyweights sitting on cut track off the Orange-Olive sub.

These two cars (ATSF 194444 & ATSF 198735) were used in a wrecker train according to this information:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Wrecker Train Consist
Sat, Dec 9, 1972
Dallas, Texas
Santa Fe derailed at Venus, probably train 315 [kc-dallas].
The wrecker train came over from Ft. Worth on TP tracks.
Engs ATSF 3538, 350,6 3536
194444 sleeper
198735 kitchen-dining car
190465 tool car
190985 flat car loaded with ties
192333 load of wheels for cars
190037 flat with track panels
202729 flat with track panels
191575 idler car
199780 hook 134-ton
4 mty hoppers numbers not gotten
999409 caboose
The Power ran around the consist leaving Dallas west. Since
Venus is only about 15 miles from Cleburne, the wreck or derailment
must have been such that it required the derrick on the east end of
derailed cars and thus had to be sent to Ft. Worth and TP to dallas.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

How they came to be abandoned here is still a mystery.

Interesting.

I have seen those for years and never stopped to look at them.

I suppose BNSF still owns them as it would still own the ROW that they are sitting on.

The switch that connects that section of track was pulled out when Metrolink purchased the Olive Sub from BNSF and put in welded rail.

I wonder what is in those cars?

Cortez's gold?

Dirty socks?
