Yesterday's Quadajona was great fun and enjoyable. Thanks go to Brett and Scott for taking charge and getting things together this year.

I will start off the report thread with a few images.

First is my phone - reminding me of the event. I made it up Cajon by 7:30.. my usual 1 hour later than planned.

The turnout this year was just as good as previous Cajona's of course the location was different as they guys were asked to re-locate from the original location.

.. and the prairie dogs were out .. these ones being of the moose variation.

Of course there were trains ... and more trains .. and well, more trains.

This was my first one captured for the day besides a rail grinder sitting down on the north end of the UP Canyon siding.

I agree that yesterday's event was another fun time. We had 25+ people show up at one time or another during the day.

Just after getting the EZ-up set up, private security showed up and told us we had to move. Before everyone gets fired up, he really tried to work with us. He called the BNSF agent on duty at the time and was told that it would be best if we didn't set up at the site. There major concern was the number of cars that would be using the short easement to get to the site. The private security guard offered several other locations that would be close to the tracks, but we had communicated earlier that Hill 582 would be a secondary location in the event of problems with the first site. So much has changed since the construction of the new main. I'm glad that this happened early and not after we had a crowd at the site. It was easy enough to make the move then and get set up again.

We had no other problems with security or rangers the rest of the time. Trains were plentaful and the fellowship of rail fans was enjoyabe. It was good to meet new people on the site and to get together with folks we haven't seen in a while. Yet, I missed the people who normally participate but could not make it due to other obligations.

Chris, I really like the image of the folks up on the hill.

This first image kind of captures the sense of the event with everyone heading out to greet the manifest heading down the Mojave Sub.

Later in the day, we have a stack train heading down track 1, and rail fans out in force to greet and commence "audience participation railfanning." Scott tries to reach for the sun. :dancing:

When one train was making it way up the pass, we heard, "Foamer alert!" over the radio. This image shows the crew of a helper set getting ready to greet the people on the hill.

After the sun disappeared behind the mountains, we had an eastbound heading up the tracks. A couple of rail fans watch as the DPUs pass by.

Twilight and the lights have been deployed around the hut for night ops.

After darkness had fallen, I went down by the signal to try my luck at some night images. A westbound helps out by lighting up the bridge for me.

Here is the bridge form another perspective with the help of another westbound.

One last image from down by the signal bridge. An eastbound passes by as my camera is pointed in the directions of Hill 582.

Last one for now shows the hut and the Hill 582 sign. I took advantage of Chris' departure when he was making his turn around to head home. The brake lights provided an interesting affect on the Hill 582 sign.

I'm looking forward to what everyone else has to contribute. Thanks again for the great day.

Ken

I had a great time yesterday. Plenty of trains to go around. I ended up taking 500 photos, which a handful got the axe. Here are a few of my favorites from yesterday.

What is considered a shave and a haircut?:confused!

Also that car you asked about is just like one I caught up in Victorville a few weeks ago. It is a scale test car.
