The Big Cajona Quad - Cajon Pass - Jan 31, 2009

Join us on the Cajon Pass on Saturday January 31st 2009 for the 4th annual Big Cajona.

Location: Adjacent to MP 58.1 just west of Hill 582.

When: Saturday January 31st 2009 - Sun Up to Sun Down - or whenever you want to show up or shove off.

What to Bring: Yourself, a chair for your butt and plans on being safe and having fun.

Details... We will Stage an easy up on the plateau just west of Hill 582. If all goes well that is where we will stay from sunrise to sunset (or later). Should we encounter any issues with the Forestry Service or Private Security, we will re-locate to Hill 582 or the Pilgrimage Hill. There is ample space for parking away from the BNSF right of way at our planned spot and access should not be too tough as there are two ways to get into the area. The easy way in was relatively beat up from the heavy rains and snow that came in towards the end of December. Hopefully that does not pose too much of a problem for any low clearance vehicles.

I will put up an aerial image of the location shortly

Chris

Here are a few images from Google with red lines all over them.

First is the turn off from Hwy 138... before that - take the 15 North towards Barstow.. exit Hwy 138, turn Right.. then reference this image.

January 31 just showed up on the 10 day forecast. The Big Cajona weather is supposed to be sunny with a high of 60 and a low of 35. It sounds like a great day to be out taking pictures and video.

A quick weather update, the forecast has changed to "Mostly Sunny" with a high of 63 and low of 37. The chance of rain is still 0%. It sounds like we're in for a good day!

I would like to join you guys, but I'm not sure if my schedule permits yet. How high of a vehicle would I need to clear the rough road? My little pickup isn't tall, but its not that low. Any ideas?

Nick-
I drive a Honda CR-V and have not had any problems on Cajon Pass. You'll probably be fine. The other good news is that temperatures on the Pass are on the rise without any rain in the forecast. That should dry out most, if not all of the mud before we arrive. I hope you can make it.
