Yes, but thats the closest I pic I could find on my hard drive to the venta spur. I'm still looking for pictures and plan to go to the Santa Ana Archives building and see what they have.

I don't know if this is a usual railfan activity, but I just love tracing paths of abandoned rail lines and lines that have been removed completely and also seeing how it used to look then and now. I find it very interesting. Its amazing how many lines used to be in the OC at one point; for all you know, your house could have been built on one!

One project I'm actually trying to do right now is obtaining a very large street view map of orange county and plotting all rail lines from the 1800s on it, weather abandoned, dormant, active, or completely removed. That will hopefully be useful to the OC railfan community.

You need to get a hold of Charles Freericks, he has a passion for that also.

Here are a few shots of the Venta Spur (actually the Irvine Spur since these photo were taken after 1965).

1. A Kathryn Turn approaches Myford Road May 26 1975. The Santa Ana Roadswitcher (later a Fullerton Roadswitcher) was the usual job that worked the spur in the 70s. however at times a turn out of San Berdoo would be used.

2. Switching cars at Kathryn (Jeffrey Rd) for the Irvine Valencia Growers packing house, ca. 1975

3. End of the Tustin leg of the spur in November of 1969.

4. Near Myford Rd. a section of rail produced by the Carnegie Steel Co. 1896.

My Avatar is a train crossing Myford Rd on the spur, site of the only wigwag on the line.

In response to inquiry about my other writings, my articles about S.P. Los Alamitos and Tustin Branches appeared in SPH&TS "TrainLine", Newport Branch in 'Western Railroader", and of course book "Rails Through the Orange Groves", etc.

I know this is an old thread and I'm not sure if snowyage finished his project, but I'm curious to know if he did or if anyone else has done something similar. His profile says he hasn't visited nor does it say when he last visited so I don't know if his account is still active.

I've been actively seeking a map of the whole OC area with all the old/abandoned and current rail routes and spurs.

It wasn't me.

RE: Venta Spur
I actively drove across the old spur's bridge over I-5 and found the whistle post back in the bushes.
I own it now.
