The Annual Pilgrimage To Cajon -- 2008

The Post-Thanksgiving trek to Cajon is just a week away.

Dateline: Cajon Pass
Location: Powerline Road, on the knoll above the south track.
Date: Saturday, November 29th 2008
Time: Sun-up to Sun-down, and any time in between.

Our annual pilgrimage (defined by Webster's as a journey to a sacred place) to Cajon Pass for a day of festive railfanning amongst two dimensional wild turkeys and restless natives.

Directions:
Exit I-15 at SR-138 (Cajon Junction or the Wrightwood Cutoff) and head east towards Cajon Summit (or Silverwood Lake). Powerline Road is an unmarked Forest Service road that runs north and south about 2.5 to 3 miles from Cajon Junction. Like the name infers, the road follows the powerlines north to the tracks. Powerline Road is NOT the first dirt road with the white fence posts, yes the powerlines are above you at this spot, but continue up towards Summit and make a left at the next powerline crossing. Follow the well graded road to the tracks. Before the first grade crossing, turn left and look up on the knoll on your left.

Another photo from the archives, this being 2005.

It looks like the EZ hut will be in the shops for repairs from the gale force winds at the Frost gathering a few weeks ago. I will bring a folding table for Marissa, but otherwise, we will be shadeless.

I wonder if rain is in the forecast ??

I do not think rain is scheduled for Saturday. It was, but according to the Fullerton Foamer weathermen - that changed on Friday.

Maybe somebody else has an easy-up or two they could bring?

Trying to talk the wife into making this trip. If it works, we will drive down Friday and spend the night probably at the Best Western, then meet up with everyone. Maybe drive home that night, who knows. We are both taking Monday and Tuesday off after Thanksgiving.

I have Cobra's. Picked em' up at Walmart. Not sure if they are still carrying them as I had a hard time finding them when I got em about 2 years ago.

Any good sporting good store will have them - like Big 5, Sport Chalet, Sportmart.

Big 5 has a set of Cobra's on sale right now.

$54.99 2 PACK (reg. $89.99)thru Nov30
Includes NOAA and Charging Station! *Depending on terrain & conditions.

Others have Motorola's and other brands. Most any will do - I just like Cobra because I had Cobra CB radio's growing up. Just make sure they have Privacy Channels or Sub Channel capability as we run on one. Different brands call them different things.

The Wolf pokes his head from his cave and sniffs the air "Hmmm . . . cardboard turkeys and Chef Boyardi . . "

*Turns off WoW and digs out his camera.* Will be there after work on Saturday morning (getting off from work at 4am)
