Camping by the Tracks vol 2

Hey Gang,

Just wanted to give everyone early (very early) notice to mark their calendars for early next year for the return to San Elijo State Beach in northern San Diego County. The dates chosen were based on the availability of weekend spots at a very busy campground.

When: March 7th-10th, 2008 (departing the am of the 10th)
Where: San Elijo State Beach
What: Pure railfannin relaxation on one of the best campgrounds on the west coast.

Marshall.. what days are you set for? Your post states 7 through the 9th.. but departing on the 10th.

I do not attend WinterRail and as of right now I hope to be down south for the weekend events.

That is also the weekend before the 1 year anniversary of the offical WCRF site launch date (March 13th)

Were you able to secure a cliff spot again?

Unfortunately due to the popularity of the campground I was unable to reserve the same spot at last year (made the reservations on 10/10/07 and it was already full).

I was however able to reserve the same location (Site #166) that Jeff and company were in last year and he was able to grab a site on the other side of the camp hosts.

San Elijo State Beach extends along Coast Highway 101, 3/4 mile north from San Elijo Lagoon's entrance channel, near the community of Cardiff-by-the-Sea.

Exit Interstate 5 at Encinitas Blvd, head WEST. Turn LEFT on So. Coast Hwy. Follow the Coast Highway south, about 2 miles.

I was going to try to make the event this year, but my daughter's second grade class has a field trip the the Getty Center on Saturday the 8th. I'm looking forward to spending the day with her. Maybe next time.

I am a go for camping. My reservations are for a Friday arrival and a Sunday departure.

Not sure of the fullness of my campsite, will get confrimations from those that said they were camping before making an open invitation...

I myself will be subject to my work schedule, so I'll be there when I can be.
