Branch Line bridges
Here are some shots of branch line bridges in Orange County.

The Costa Mesa Local used a truss bridge to cross the Santa Ana River betweeen South Anaheim and Santa Ana. When THE Santa Ana Freeway was widen in the late 1980s, the SP line was needed and the SP started using the Santa Fe route in Feb. 1989. Two Photos show the old bridge and the third has a train using the Santa Fe girder bridge to cross the Santa Ana River

RE: Branch Line bridges
Cliff, could this be the old bridge on the Tustin Branch crossing the Santa Ana River?

RE: Branch Line bridges
Yes, the mystery bridge is the old Tustin Branch bridge over the Santa Ana River. They were in the process of building the new bridge. If you look at the track (The UP to Marlboro [north Orange]) you can see the jogg in the line to go over the new bridge. The Drive-in that can be seen in one of the photo is one of the screens of the Stadium Drive-in.

Attached is the current bridge on the old Tustin Branch, the washed out bridge over the Santiago Creek of the Tustin Branch and an uncropped shot of the old Tustin Branch Bridge showning the Drive-in.

The SP bridge was replaced when the Santa Ana River was improved and the old bridge was not suitable.

Used to ride bikes down to the Santiago Creek washout in 69. Wish I'd taken pictures.
