Seal Beach Naval Weapons Station
The tracks that (used to) go into the Seal Beach Naval weapons station. Who ran the trains? Was it Union Pacific? Or did the Navy have it's own equipment for moving trains around? I ask because I drive across the tracks every day on my way to school and I've always wondered what trains went over them. I've never seen a train crossing the tracks at Bolsa Chica into the weapons station.

Try that one for starters. You will find plenty more by clicking on the word Search under the site banner and entering Seal Beach in the search field. Chris Chris Walker - Forum Owner |

RE: Seal Beach Naval Weapons Station
I lived in Long Beach for several years and I remember seeing boxcars on the line that crosses under PCH. I wish I was interested in trains at that time so I could take photos before they left
It's sad to hear they left but the cost and impact on the environment didn't justify their continued use. |

Yea I saw that yesterday during my search, but thanks Tim. Curious to see if anyone has any pics of the Sand Trains that rolled thru there in 1997..

RE: Seal Beach Naval Weapons Station
I heard there was a derailment on that line and a number of the local residents plundered the equipment. Probably a reason why they stopped running trains as often...

RE: Seal Beach Naval Weapons Station
The reason they stopped has been made pretty clear ... economics. I fail to see the reason to try and differ the blame to anything else that can not be proven.

RE: Seal Beach Naval Weapons Station
Last I heard (could have changed since) there are still two GE center cab switchers on the base, but they may in fact be landlocked with all the track that has been pulled.
