LOL, its lawsuits like this that pollute our court system.

If there's anyone to go after it's Congress so they can tighten emission standards, if the railroads are in compliance with the law then they have nothing to worry about.

I'm particularly fond of the comment that RRs target neighborhoods with low income minorities to polluting trains, classic.

These people really think the railroad is whats to blame for their kids condition!?!? Based on what facts? Some people are born with asthma and there are different ways of developing it! How about looking at the different possibilities before pointing fingers?

We live in a society where it's easier to point fingers and beg for a vague panacea than to roll up our sleeves and do something. And when we point fingers, we're usually gesting at the wrong culprit. We also reject every effective remedy to our solution due to some insignificant detriment.

Yeah. Deep lead-in. This "railroads cause athsma" is on par with the theories regarding mercury in vaccines leading to autism--purely laughable.

So basically these folks believe that the railroad an "environmental nusiance" without understanding:
1). that maybe they're stuck in this situation 'cos NIMBYs like them think Electrification is an eyesore.
2). Railroading has been shoehorned into a diesel-dependent state by the same folks who slew the streetcar. National City Lines and EMD were owned by the same parent company.
3). Maybe the L.A. Basin's freeways and car culture are to blame. I got a fresh perspective on this after visiting SLO--when I returned to SoCal the air looked and smelled dirtier to me.

Therefore, these people are too fast to blame the railroads. They should go take it out on automotive companies and the "streetcar / mainline electrification killers".

Let's say the RRs start using electric trains, next these people will file a lawsuit saying the high voltage lines cause cancer.

I thought PHL has a very green fleet, the truck traffic and waiting trains (and their emissions) have been reduced since the introduction of the Corridor, and the ports are (or will be) requiring ships to be cleaner and use electrical connections so their engines don't have to run while docked.

The ports are much cleaner than they used to be.

Exactly, also the RR's should go after the local gov'ts for improper zoning of property adjacent to railyards.
If you need cheap with few neighbors, there's a trailer in Adelanto with your name on it!
