OK, if it doesn't 'fly', get ready to pay for major airport expansions to accomodate future travel growth in State.

There is a lot of business travel that can really be done by net meeting type arrangements. As tight as money is going to be for the next bunch of years, companies are going to tighten a lot of purse strings and discretionary travel is going to be on a lot of hit lists. Plus I expect some tax law changes that are going to eliminate a lot of business deductions. Gonna be hard to convince the few taxpayers remaining that SFO, Oakland and San Jose all need to be expanded, and LAX, Burbank, Long Beach, Orange County and Ontario need to be upgraded. |

RE: UP voices major objections to bullet train plans
CAHSR's biggest problem is themselves. They think like highway people and plan like RRs from the 1880s.
The shortest distance between LA and Frisco is by following I-5 and finding a place to zip over the coast range (the TGV does this quite well), not following the winding road over Pacheco Pass or going up to Altamont. (clear spot north of Morgan Hill) They also want their own R-O-W up the Peninsula rather than sharing the existing (lots of money to detroy a lot of private property ...) UPee is the least of their worries .... TCS - stupidity in governement |
