(11/5/11) La Mirada Yard Power Assignment

Below, the switching power observed at BNSF's La Mirada Yard as of Saturday, November 5th, 2011.

Three sets tied down on the fuel track...
Set 1 - BNSF 127 (H2 GP60M), BNSF 145 (H2 GP60M)
Set 2 - BNSF 140 (H2 GP60M), BNSF 161 (Warbonnet GP60M)
Set 3 - BNSF 8704 (Blue & Yellow GP60), BNSF 8705 (Blue & Yellow GP60)

Caboose ATSF 999795, was tacked on to the west end of the power sets on the fuel track. Caboose BN 12568 was tied down on the cement tracks. ATSF 999755 was MIA thanks to it's fender bender back in September while on the 2nd LM. The computer still shows it at La Mirada though.

A seventh unit, BNSF 131 (Warbonnet GP60M) was parked alone on the cement tracks. A great spot for an afternoon delight.

The power is rotated in and out of Barstow every 90 days for required mechanical inspections. Every unit has a different date for those inspections. The LACBAR/BARLAC manifest trains end up shuttling the units to and from Barstow.

Other than that, any minor defects which occur over time are handled by the mechanical crews at Commerce Diesel. The 4th Rivera job will take any problem units up to Commerce on their Friday to be repaired over the weekend. The units are refueled when needed at La Mirada Yard.

A couple units were tested there for a few weeks back in 2010. They never returned.

The 8704 and 8705 were working the 3rd LM last Wednesday.
