Sidebar on 857: many years ago 857 was leading the evening's last train to Moorpark when "an aspiring rock guitarist" decided he would try to run across the track where said trainwas approaching at 60mph. He wasn't running fast enough to begin with but then he tripped .... Everybody at the crossing watched in horror as 857 punted his instantly lifeless body well over 300 feet - including his girlfriend in the first car next to the median facing north on Winnetka.
857 had a crease in it's pilot for the longest time afterward. He was a stocky lad, though not very bright.
Further sidebar: The same trainset inbound monday morning at the same crossing struck a flock of pigeons resulting in a huge mess on the front of the cabcar.
