When I was the Conductor on the P811 on the Tehacahapis' replacing wood ties for the cement ones, we also removed the old rail and replaced the new rail with the one machine at the same time. Of course that was back in the mid to late 90's.

I'm not sure, that is just what I've always been told the difference was. I know some guys who worked with the P811 in the Feather River Canyon and they said it didn't do the rail on the signal machine. I'm certainly no expert on track equipment. Maybe the TRT-909 is just the update machine form the P811.

Eric,
I just talked to my brother. He said the TRT909 is a major upgraded P811. I never worked the TRT machine, but if it is an upgrade it must be one heck of a machine. The P811 was quite an awesome piece of equipment.

They're esentially the same machine (having seen them in action many times).

TCS - not to be confused with a TLM.
