A day out in San Diego
I went out for lunch with a certain Coaster_Engineer while he was on his layover in San Diego, as we wrapped up our lunch he placed a few phone calls trying to get some information and amidst all that got a tip that the inbound Daygo was approaching Miramar. Ed wanted to go all the way to Elvira but I didn't think we had time and went straight to Morena. Less than five minutes later he rounded the corner...

He took the siding at Morena so we figured he'd wait for Amtraks 774 and 583 and decided to head him off down at Cudahy.

(I had a lookout, but we had some time.)

I was a little disappointed to look at the old Union Tribune printing facility which they closed some time ago, and see that another business had (finally) taken up the facility, but sadly they've made it quite clear they do not plan on taking rail deliveries.

I also noticed that the vacant lot I used to park in has been taken over by a local business as a parking spot for their trucks, and it appears that
the lot is set to be developed soon. *Sigh*. Amtrak 774 passed by featuring some of the latest Passenger power from General Electric (not that that is saying much), followed shortly by 583 coming in the other direction (with a foamer!)

After a few minutes the freight hadn't moved, so C_E placed a strategic phone call and discovered that 653 was having some sort of issue on the single track east of the depot, and until that was resolved the Dispatcher couldn't unleash the Daygo. Since my partner in crime was running out of time we cut and run so I could drop him off. Afterwards I went in search of the Daygo. Didn't get very far...

A sign of things to come:

To close out the day I wanted to check out the vantage point from some of the pedestrian footbridges near the airport. The sunset was a beautiful way to end things before diving into the rush hour traffic.

Nice shots Jared. I like that spot at the end of the ped bridge at palm. Looks like they have the "no horn" signs put up under the grade crossing.

I might add, I think that's the most dash-9's I've seen on a train down here since 2008!

The second DP Unit is a C-4, but the rest are D-9s.

In wonder if this is a fluke or maybe the end of the 7700s everywhere you look is near?
