in the late 90s this branch was removed and built over. I think this is a very interesting branch line the SP used to have. The Branch line passed right in front of the entrance to the Los Alamitos Race Track , past that came the end of line drop off for Barr Lumber, now Ganal Lumber. I cant find any pictures on the internet.

I have seen this branch and I also think that this branch was pretty cool. Maybe the historical society has some pics.

I wrote an illustrated history of the branch that was published in the SPH&TS "TrainLine" a few years ago, but forget issue number or year, so will have to rumage thru my files tomorrow to provide specifics.

Ah, found it, Issue No. 16(December, 1986), possibly available from the Society or at rail swap meets.

You did? Wow. Are you from that area or something? Los Alamitos is not really a big known city in Orange County, unless you lived their or are into Horse Races.

I have been meaning to find time to goto the Los Al museum near the corner of Katella and Los al Blvd. They might have some images I can take snap shots of. but they are only open a couple days a week, from what I remember living their 10+ years ago.

Steve Donaldson is the co-author of the two volume history of Orange County Railroads, Rails Through The Orange Groves. He was a long time resident of Orange County.

A few years ago on a Sun. Afternoon I was going into Los Al and saw a headlight to the West(?!) Yep, a crud and a lumber flat coming out of that last customer. Didn't have my camera of course . Must have been one of the last moves on that line. The tracks were right in front of the entrance.

There is a picture of a GP35R in front of the race track on page 172 of the 'Southern Pacific... into the 90's' by Joe Shine. Picture was taken by Joe Shine. Hope that helps a little.
