What is happening at the west end of Colton Yard?
My wife went past Colton Yard on the I-10 today and saw quite a bit of construction activity occurring at Sierra. She saw 3 sets of yellow rail equipment that looked like solid yellow toasters pulling various yellow flatcars. The one she took a picture of had a flatcar with an excavator on it. Is this long term construction or just stuff passing through?

I think they are rebuilding a siding track between Sierra and Cedar because when I was over there, I noticed a potential stretch of track missing and saw many rail maintenance vehicle there including some Herzog equipment.
Not entirely sure though. -Ryan |

I was on Cajon today and they seemed to be doing a maintenance blitz on the cutoff. Several machines were on the line tamping and whatnot.

RE: What is happening at the west end of Colton Yard?
I saw one on the wye in east Fontana on Thursday, the other working in the Bloomington yard. As I passed by Friday, they were side by side, lined up photo op style near Sierra Ave.
A bit off topic, but there is a tie gang working the L.A. sub east, Pomona-Montclair area on Friday, Mira Loma to Jurupa on Sunday. Steve |

Woody, that is a neat shot. I don't think I have ever seen one like it. Good catch.

RE: What is happening at the west end of Colton Yard?
I went to winter camp in Forest falls this weekend. I knew we were going by the colton yard, but I didn't expect this...
Some failed attempts of the two Herzog trains (Shutter speed too slow)... Last Friday Night... The other... Coming back on Monday.... Look,no cars to block the view of the toaster! I was on a bus,so I couldn't stop to take pics of it.... Also,I noticed a worker staking tiny pink flags into the ballast... Wonder what this is all about? (for sure) Nathan - The Amtrak Freak |

RE: What is happening at the west end of Colton Yard?
When do they plan to put the 2nd main in service west of West Colton?
SP-Better question is to where they plan on putting crossovers between West Colton and Pomona? |
