Bad day for Metrolink
About 45 minutes ago a person with a bicycle was struck by Metrolink 404 at Fullerton Road (LA sub). The engineer reported that the ped popped out from behind an opposing freight movement. Gaah

RE: Bad day for Metrolink
Making assumptions can be deadly, in this case he assumed the freight was the only train going by.

I don't know why people are so impatient. Yesterday the Marlboro switcher crossed a street. For some reason waiting less than a minute was too long and people drove past the crossing even though it was still flashing (no gates) assuming the train wouldn't back up, which it did.

It wasn't me.

I think if you aren't used to trains it can be easy to forget that there may be a meet. Maybe we need to teach kids about this the same way we teach them to look both ways before crossing the street.

RE: Bad day for Metrolink
I saw 404 with all the LA County Fire equipment and LA County Sheriff Squad cars. At first I didn't see the train and thought it was a traffic collision.

SP-Glad I didn't see it happen.

RE: Bad day for Metrolink
Well this guy was lucky it wasn't fatal. Only hit his rear tire and threw him off his bike. He had only moderate injuries and transported on the ground to County USC Medical Center.

RE: Bad day for Metrolink
Based on the article, it sounds like he should have been able to see the train. Because if he was heading north he was on the southside of the tracks. So he should have been able to see a metrolink on the south tracks...
