Tustin Branch (Trail)

After several months of construction the walking path along the ex-Tustin Branch right-of-way is open once again between 17th St and Warren. The first photo is looking north from Warren. The second is looking south from Vanderlip toward Warren and the third is looking north from Vanderlip toward 17th. The last photo shows a closeup of the crossbuck. I'm not sure what the small structure is for. It seems to be non-functional since it doesn't have a door. The photos were taken about noon today.

Nice pictures. I used to walk that when it was still operative as a kid. Just had to listen for the SW 1500 or S6 or whatever so you could get out of the way. Me and my buddies used to dig out forts at the Fairhaven grade crossing.

They should have put the tracks back in there... That's the only way they could have really fixed that trail!.

RE: Tustin Branch (Trail)
It looks like they are almost ready to open the new extension from Wanda south now when I drove by as they already have the bike/walking path paved. Seems that they just need to add some plants & open the gates.

RE: Tustin Branch (Trail)
It was treacherous to drive parts of it due to people using it to dump various things, glad to see it as a trail if not a railroad.

TCS - wonder if that structure covers anything judging by it's base.

There's also some ROW from Santiago Creek through what used to be McPherson and south where it curves east and towards LaVeta Park where the El Modena Station used to be. Although the back yards of the homes along there have been extended over the ex railroad property.

Using Google maps you can follow the right of way from where it starts in Orange, and ends in Tustin at Newport Ave and Irvine Blvd.

There was discussion about using the right of way from Chapman Ave. to Fairhaven for a trail at one time, but some local residents were afraid of possible problems with a trail that was not easily seem. In addition some had built into the right of way and wanted to keep it. The city scrapped the plan for a trail and the UP offered the property for sale.
