BTW, what is the grade on the hill?

Eastbound grade 1.47% Colton to Redlands then 1.89% from there through the San Timoteo Canyon to the top of the grade at Apex. The Westbound grade 2.0% from which technically starts at Mecca east of Indio to Apex. It gets steeper west of Indio then the westbound trains are typically doing between 15-20MPH in notch 8 between Garnet and West Palm Springs crossovers. The steepest part of the Westbound grade is from about about Fingal up to Beaumont and the Eastbound grade from about El Casco all the way to Beaumont.

Apex is in Beaumont and Mecca is the lowest surface railroad point in North America 196 feet below sea level.

RE: Birthday Weekend Fanning
Robert, I like how you're showing the gradient of Beaumont Hill in those pictures.
