SP Historical Society Convention - Ventura October 10-14
The SP Historical Society is having their convention in Ventura, CA, October 10-14. There will be 13 SP related presentations including photo essays of the SP along the Central Coast, operations, several modeling clinics, a model contest, over two dozen vendors selling SP related merchandise, memorabilia, art, model railroad layout tours, and a banquet with an SP female Dispatcher
for a speaker. We are offering several bus tours including the Limoneira packing house, the SP official car Santa Barbara, and Port Hueneme. Thursday we are offering a tour over some rare passenger mileage on the Fillmore & Western RR which was the SP mainline before 1904. We will be traveling from west of Saticoy all the way to Piru, through the citrus groves and past some of the packing houses. Normally, F&W passenger trains only go
from Fillmore to Santa Paula, never west of Santa Paula and these days very infrequently to Piru. We will go the whole distance and back.. If you are interested in attending the convention there is more information and registration available on the website

If you are just interested in the rail excursion we are offering limited seating to the general public. The announcement is below.

Southern Pacific Historical & Technical Society (SPH&TS) is proud to
announce that its annual convention will be held this year in Ventura, California on October 10-14, 2012. Participants will be able to ride a train excursion along the pre-1904 SP Coast Mainline on the Fillmore & Western Railway. We will be traveling on tracks seldom used by the railroad’s passenger trains from west of Saticoy all the way to Piru. The railroad travels through citrus groves as well as the towns of Saticoy, Santa Paula, Fillmore, and Piru. A BBQ dinner is included after the return train trip.

For a limited time only, the general public and railfans in particular, are being offered the opportunity to participate in this rare mileage trip. The price is $170 per person. Reservations and payment in full must be received no later than noon on Wednesday October 3, 2012.
