La Selva Beach Bridge Update
The following is from the March 6, 2014 RTC meeting.

Santa Cruz Branch Rail Line Bridge Rehabilitation Project:
The contractor for the railroad bridge rehabilitation project has submitted most of the construction documents requiring review and approval to begin construction on the bridges included in the contract. The project team has also inspected the steel fabricator’s facility in Coolidge, AZ and was reassured that the fabrication of the La Selva Beach trestle is in capable hands. The La Selva Beach Trestle will have almost a complete reconstruction with the exception of the footings.

It was not mentioned in the meeting highlights, but the color for the new La Selva Beach Bridge will be Enviro Green.

Enviro Green? Interesting. Of course, if the railroad isn't worried, I won't be. I'm appreciative of your updates, Howard. Thank you for keeping an eye on this priceless line. Keep up the good work!

Yeah. Interesting color choice. I was weighing towards the brown personally. Or silver if they had it.

Thank you. Good to hear you are enjoying the thread. I believe it has become a good resource for those looking for information on the rail line. I have a couple more photo essays in the bin to post, but have been too busy to complete and post right now.

The owner of the rail line, the Santa Cruz Regional Transportation Commission (RTC), decided on the paint color. RTC staff worked with the design and construction management engineers to select potential colors for the bridge taking into consideration the following:
1. Existing setting of the bridge and its background environment;
2. Minimizing glare;
3. Maximizing durability of the coating and structure; and
4. Minimizing graffiti.

The RTC selected the color preferred by the La Selva Beach Improvement Association.

MOW updated their website and moved the date of the motorcar excursion to October 11th and 12th due to a schedule conflict.

RE: Santa Cruz & Monterey Bay Railway : Service On The Santa Cruz Branch Line
The Santa Cruz & Monterey Bay Railway postponed their dinner train operation that was supposed to start last year due to replacement of one steel bridge and repairs to several timber trestles. With the completion of the bridge work later this year the dinner train operation may begin.

Nothing could be finer than to be a sunset diner on the Santa Cruz & Monterey Bay Railway.

The old girl is willing to do anything to earn enough for a repaint in a handsome heritage paint scheme. In the meantime, while MH 89 is away the F9’s will play.
