So, 89 is finally getting a paint job? What scheme?

I have not heard anything official. It would be great if the revenue generated by the lease was put towards painting MH 89.

I miss the sound of the train horn that would echo out of the New Brighton woods as the train climbed the grade through the s-curve. Still no word from the RTC when bridge work will begin. Hope freight service to Santa Cruz will resume before the end of this year.

Question. If freight was to return to Santa Cruz, what industries would they serve? I had no idea there were any left north of Watsonville that could use rail service. Oh I hope it all comes true. Also, is the cement plant in Davenport closed for good?

The customer served will receive lumber products.

I hear the same customer may start receiving cars at their Felton location again too. It would be great to see cars again at the RCBT&P interchange with SC&MB. The Davenport Cemex plant is closed for good.

Looks like the only SC&MB rail operations past MP 9.0 this summer will be hi-rail inspections.

RCBT&P will start their beach train operation this weekend and use SC&MB trackage to access the Boardwalk.

I learned recently that the property on West Beach Street in front of North Star Biofuels has been sold to Martinelli's. Hope the rail spur going into the property will be put back in service.

I thought their plant is across the street from this location?

Martinelli's used to lease space at the Apple Growers Cold Storage building that occupied this location before it burned down in 2011. I imagine Martinelli's will build a new facility for storage of apples and bottled drinks here.

Weed Spraying On The Santa Cruz Branch Line
Today a hi-rail weed spraying truck sprayed the ROW from the 7th Street crossing all the way to the end of track at Mile Post 32. I will post some photographs when I have time. Below is a photograph from this afternoon at Mile Post 31 by the shuttered Cemex cement plant.
