From the website you recommend to vote on…this is humorous:

"For the first week or so of the poll, votes were running 2-1 in favor of removing the tracks. Then on August 3, members of the Altamount Press Discussion Forum and West Coast Rail Forums started bombarding the site with votes to establish passenger rail service. At this point we’d have to consider the results of the poll to be tainted."

I think we're all Californians (well, most of us): we can have a say in this too Hi_yelling

I could say something, but it would be tainted.

RE: Santa Cruz & Monterey Bay Railway : Service On The Santa Cruz Branch Line
I miss the passenger cars that Iowa Pacific leased from Mid-America for the Santa Cruz & Monterey Bay Railway back in 2012. After the 2012 Train To Christmas Town season ended the cars were stored on an industrial spur until they could be returned to Mid-America. Due to operations and customer deliveries the cars were always being moved which created interesting arrangement to photograph.

One day in January of last year the clouds were beautiful and the lighting on the F-Units was perfect as I worked my way back along the passenger cars trying different angles with my camera. I looked down to change some settings and when I raised my head Mark Miller, the escort for the Mid-America cars, appeared and was walking towards me. I took the quick snap below.

I love the way the building and clouds intermingle with the reflective surfaces on the passenger cars. The passenger cars appear to be in a two dimensional world and the F-Units and refrigeration car are in a three dimension world. Mark Miller appears to be caught in the shadow that separates the two worlds. I am drawn in by the juxtaposition.

So It Begins
Work on the replacement of the La Selva Bridge started this past Monday and I dropped by this evening to see the progress. They were still on site working at 7:00 PM. So far they have installed barricades and started building a road to the first crane pad.

Once the bridge work completes trains will be able to reach Santa Cruz again from Watsonville.
