Man, the La Selva bridge is in poor condition! Rust never
sleeps, does it?

Good to hear you enjoyed the photo essay. I enjoy covering this type of work.

There are three other bridge structures slated for rehabilitation over the next few months, which include the Watsonville/San Andreas bridge at mile post (MP) 4.87, the Sumner Avenue bridge at MP 11.16 in Seascape and the Wilder Ranch bridge at MP 23.54. I will cover these bridges too.

There were special precautions for the last train to cross the La Selva Bridge back in December of 2012. MH 89 was needed to help bring the Train To Christmas Town back from Santa Cruz for the last time, but it had to be uncoupled and taken across the bridge separately due to weight restrictions. In the photograph below the Train to Christmas Town is shown being moved into position to couple to MH 89 after SC 1101 had cleared the bridge.
