OCTOBER IN THE RAILROAD EARTH 2009 is done !!

Another splendid event at Frost is in the books. It was another memorable railfan weekend and campout at the Mojave Narrows Campgrounds. All round, a fine weekend with friends. Wind did play a factor and so did the Sheep Creek Fire, which slowed down traffic on Saturday evening and Sunday morning.

Everybody... Please add your photos and observations to the thread !!

Here are three images to start things off...
All three are from Saturday's hike to the Narrows.

a. A UP train going away at the signals at Frost. (Same train as #C, but somehow the photos got out of order ??)

b. An eastbound BNSF train heading into the Narrows.

c. A single unit leads a train out of the Narrows and on towards the crossovers at Frost.

Alright, I think it's my turn to add.

First up we have the Landscape Shots I took:

LANDSCAPE:

1. The hut in the day.
2. The hut in the night.
3. The moon-light reflecting off the lake.
4. Saturday morning's sunrise over the Narrows.
5. The sunset with the smoke from the Sheep Fire in Cajon Pass.
6. The sun setting behind a tree.

Now for the trains! Big Grin

TRAINS:

1. BNSF 6618 West passing by with a UP SD70ACe.
2. Shortly after arriving Friday afternoon, a Eastbound BNSF Arrived with a Executive Unit!
3. ...
4. Sunday morning, we see the DPUs of a Eastbound stack in partly cloudy weather.
5. After everyone left the campsite, some went home and some kept looking for trains. I found a few out near CP Cajon. Here's the DPUs of an Eastbound UP Stack.

Thanks for looking everyone! I had a great time on my first ever trip to Mojave Narrows! I'd like to sign off with a little comedy...

1. F59PHI450's car gets ambushed by a flock of birds, soon to be scared off by his horn.
2. Chris finds his match.

~Danny Thanks

My match? I am quite sure my wife would be rather upset if my match was a rail car with my name on it.

More like a name tag... and V... If I painted that then you absolutely hate the PE and wish you had never worked for them or any railroad. Big Grin

I did find it amusing however.

Chris

Sorry I had to leave in such a short time, another great time with great friends.

We started out and as we waited for the first train I got to try out the 100mm Macro, I think I could really enjoy this type of photography, but maybe not in as windy a place.

The fire became the main topic and I had to make sure they didn't close the 15 so I took off and when I passed the 138 it was just way to tempting so I doubled back up the frontage road and popped off a few.

I had a great time and can't wait for the next event.

Have Fun,

Fred
